It's kind of funny to me that when I mention the word bonsai some people, the first thing they ask is if I refer to the small tree that Mr. Miyagi in the movie had 'Karate Kid. "Yes indeed, Miyagi was loving her bonsai tree, including the teaching of technical Daniel-son. Well, I'm not here to talk about karate for kids today, but rather what to do if you're planning to take a bonsai hobby.

The first thing to understand is that there are trees that are best suited for beginners and some that are best for advanced amateurs. Beginners need a tree that is forgiving and can withstand the learning curve is natural for beginners. This limits the selection a little, but believe me, you do not want to get in over your head.

The bonsai tree I'd like to talk about today is very good for beginners because of the reasons mentioned above. I refer to the ficus tree.
